Each one of team members play an important role in keeping this well-oiled machine, not only running but churning out brilliant ideas and projects on the reg. In our ‘meet the team’ series, we give you a little more insight into the talented folk that make up our Smack Bang family.
My name is Drou and my mum would say I’m brave but I think feeling the fear and doing it anyway keeps me feeling alive. The first thing I do when I wake up is jump in the shower and boil a cuppa of hot lemon. At the end of the day I always enjoy a peppermint tea and snuggles with my main man. My favourite thing about my job is the uber talented people, the mix of amazing projects I get to manage and the culture created by our wonderful boss lady.
What do you do at SBD? I am an Account Manager, which people often confuse for an accountant (so not an accountant) I essentially manage a heap of exciting projects at any one time and liaise with our clients to ensure briefs are clear and met on time. It is a bit of juggling act to be honest but I love it, no two days are the same and it’s great to see the evolution of a project from start to finish.
If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing? Roadtripping around the globe with my other half, not knowing what tomorrow will bring – cooking on the fire, smelling of campfire and revelling in all nature’s wonders! I love my job so couldn’t see myself doing anything else work-wise.
You’re on a desert island and can only listen to one album for the rest of your days. Which one is it? Stevie Wonder’s greatest hits, he brings me all the joy! Stevie takes me back to many great life moments, seeing him live at the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury 2010 being one of the most joyous moments of my life. He is also the soundtrack to many of my childhood home videos (hello 80s!) and “I just called to say I love you” is my mum and dad’s song so this was a no-brainer for me.
What’s your weekend ritual? Friday night yin yoga to start off my weekend right, it honestly puts me in the best mood and I often wonder how I so heavily boozed my way through my twenties. My partner and I also love to explore so more often than not you’ll find me with my very glamorous clunky boots on hiking somewhere coastal or mountainous (mood pending) on a Saturday.
What’s the best choice you’ve made so far in life? Quitting my Job in London back in 2013 to travel through Africa and South America for 14 months. I met my wonderful Aussie boy in Africa, which in turn got me to Sydney and here at SBD. I find it pretty nuts to think how much my life has changed in the last 4 years; take a leap it’s so worth it!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? When I was a kid living in London I was obsessed with a tv show called Bernard’s watch. Little Bernard had a watch that could freeze time so he could get his homework done and then go and hang out with his friends in real time. I really want a watch like Bernard’s, I would get so much done and have more time to spend with my loved ones.
Coffee order? Soy Cap for me, please! Although I’m now down to one a week so it’s a wonderful treat.
If you weren’t living in Sydney, where would you choose and why? This is a toughie, London is my home and I miss my family and friends so it would have to be London, but if I could take all my loved ones with me, it would be somewhere coastal in the Mediterranean. Greece is where I feel most content, I spent many summers there as a child and every time I go back I can see myself retiring to somewhere coastal on the mainland and eating calamari ’til my dying days.
