Each one of team members play an important role in keeping this well-oiled machine, not only running but churning out brilliant ideas and projects on the reg. In our ‘meet the team’ series, we give you a little more insight into the talented folk that make up our Smack Bang family.
My name is Holly and my mum would say I’m really bad at keeping a well-stocked fridge but I think I’m really good at spontaneous dinners and being extremely efficient at the supermarket, which is important if you have to go there everyday because your fridge is not very well-stocked. The first thing I do when I wake up is feed my baby daughter and try not to fall back to sleep. At the end of the day it’s a mad rush to feed, bathe and put bub to bed before we settle down to a yummy dinner and a glass of wine. My favourite thing about my job is watching the talent in the Smack Bang studio grow and grow, literally everyday. I also love the way we operate and our work culture, Smack Bang is a real game-changer in the realm of design agencies, we work to live and love what we do.
What do you do at SBD? I’m the Art Director at SBD. This means I work closely with Tess to come up with and execute new and exciting creative projects to propel Smack Bang into the world as a forward-thinking creative agency. I also work on day-to-day design bits and pieces, copywriting, art direction, social media and marketing strategy. I’m lucky enough to work from my home in Bangalow and visit the Sydney studio every few months.
If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing? I think I’d be throwing myself headfirst into mum-life while thinking of 10000 new projects to start, but never actually start any of them.
You’re on a desert island and can only listen to one album for the rest of your days. Which one is it? The Easy Rider soundtrack. It always puts me in a good mood and it’s a super great soundtrack for daydreaming about adventures, which I am sure you would desperately need if you were stuck on a desert island.
What’s your weekend ritual? Coffee, pastries, wine, pasta. Long drives, a tidy home and fresh sheets. If I’m lucky, weekends will also bring unplanned adventures, a BBQ with friends and a trip to the beach with my little family. Oh, and they must end with a beer.
What’s the best choice you’ve made so far in life? To agree to go on a date with a long-haired, long-limbed boy who surfed 7 days a week and worked 1. We went and got falafels, rode our bikes to the beach and star-gazed. Classic Byron Bay first date, so cliché. Fast forward 5 years and we have a daughter and he has a job.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? To be able to fly! But not just fly at bird-pace, more like aeroplane-pace. I’d holiday in a different country every weekend. I’d also love to be super-strong like The Hulk, that might help with the current issue of our home being stuck in a state of constant renovation.
Coffee order? Soy latte. If I’m feeling extra slow, it’ll be a long black. Somehow they get me more buzzed.
If you weren’t living in Bangalow, where would you choose and why? LA. There’s something about that place that seems to be the perfect balance of ocean, desert and city. I’d love my daughter to grow up surrounded by the diversity of a big city like that. Also the architecture and the Ramen.
