a week with the smack bang team – jade

Each one of team members play an important role in keeping this well-oiled machine, not only running but churning out brilliant ideas and projects on the reg. In our ‘meet the team’ series, we give you a little more insight into the talented folk that make up our Smack Bang family.

My name is Jade and my mum would say I’m not great at cleaning but I think my lack of passion for cleaning is kind of part of my charm. The first thing I do when I wake up is go to pilates, followed by cooking up some scrambled eggs, sharing them with my pup and at the end of the day I walk home from the station, with a smile on my dial because my two best boys (fiancé and pup) are at home waiting for me… to cook dinner. My favourite thing about my job is most definitely the people, a close second would be the endless opportunities that this magical place just seems to create, on the daily.

What do you do at SBD? I’m the studio manager and resident copywriter. It’s a mix of organisational and creative work rolled into one bloody enjoyable day job. There’s always something new –  choosing a floral arrangement, chatting to new clients, putting together our edms, writing and proofreading, planning SBD events are regular occurrences but the studio is often full of suprises and challenges. We all wear a lot of hats here at the SBD studio and help each other wherever needed.

If you weren’t doing that, what would you be doing? If I was to look at what I do when I’m not at my 9-5, then I would definitely say still writing but not copywriting. At this moment in time, I find my thoughts and ramblings lean more towards proses and poetry than they do short and sharp copy. If I could spend the rest of my days writing poetry direct from the heart, I think I’d be one happy girl.

On the other hand, a part of me wishes I lived out my childhood dream of becoming a vet, although I don’t think I could stomach the bad bits or endure the many years of study!

You’re on a desert island and can only listen to one album for the rest of your days. Which one is it? Easy choice – Frank Ocean, Channel Orange. Reminds me of my love and I never get sick of it.

What’s your weekend ritual? Every weekend I try to spend a bit of time by myself – laying in the sun, reading a mag/book or journaling, usually with a coffee or cider in hand, this is my type of indulgence. As far as rituals go, I normally spend my Saturday mornings walking my Frenchie, followed by a Barre class and a coffee, playdates with my niece and nephew, a little bit of work or housework (if I have to!). The evenings are reserved for red wine and silly conversations with my love. Sunday is family day with my boys, normally a sleep in (while he surfs), a walk along the esplanade and delicious brunch.

What’s the best choice you’ve made so far in life? My life has been a mix of great and not-so-great choices that have all led me here so I’m thankful for that. Probably my most life-altering decision (even though I didn’t know it at the time) was saying yes to an Amaretto and cola (which I don’t drink and never have) from a very intoxicated, but very cute boy, way back when, then saying yes again, to spending the rest of my life with that same goofy fellow.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? The ability to stop time. Imagine if we could do that? I’d treasure every good moment, you could pause to think about what you are going to say before blurting out words of irrationality and I’d never be late again!

Coffee order? I use to be a one coffee per day kind of gal but at the moment, it’s crept up to being two or sometimes a three a day habit. I take a small almond latte in the morning and a skim cap in the afternoon, to mix things up!

If you weren’t living in Sydney, where would you choose and why? I always envisioned when we slow down, we’ll move north to Byron or somewhere near there. Not too far from my family but to a place that encourages community, creativity and slow living. Somewhere warm and close to the ocean is a necessity.
