One of our tops chicks from the SBD design team takes us on a tour of her fave places in New York today. Ready to book a one-way ticket? We sure are! We’ll let Al take the reigns…
BEST CHANGE ROOMS Reformation. Hands down. Best. Ever. These change rooms made me ask the question: “why doesn’t every store have change rooms like these? First up, you order all of your clothes to a change room on an ipad, so no need to rummage around racks of clothes, trying to find your perfect size. Then, you enter your own massive change room with all of your clothes hung up beautifully in a wardrobe.
This next part is what will blow your mind… you can change the lighting of the room. Truth. Every change room has an ipad – so if you need to change sizes or try on a new garment, just order it, close your wardrobe and then it appears! You honestly want to spend hours in there. Best change room experience that could ever exist.
“You are greeted by one of the Glossier girls (who are all dressed in pale pink painter’s jumpsuits .. cuuuute!”
BEST BRANDING My friend and I went and visited the Glossier showroom. I was blown away with every part of the experience! The showroom is in a penthouse, which sits on top of their offices. You are greeted by one of the Glossier girls (who are all dressed in pale pink painter’s jumpsuits .. cuuuute), then you get a lift up to the penthouse. When the doors opened, I literally gasped. The layout and interiors were a dream.
All of the makeup and skin care are set out beautifully and you are free to try on whatever you like. Once you are ready to order, one of the girls gathers your order and you take it to the desk and then you get your goodies! The branding is not only in the visuals, but also the vibe, the employees and even customers. It is a true empire! It was my jam and I was loving it.
THINGS I LEARNT WHILE TRAVELLING IN NYC
Americans tell stories way better than we do. Overhearing conversations (not eavesdropping of course), was so fascinating. Stories were always told with so much detail and emphasis. The most boring of stories were told and made into something so interesting.
Subways and bike riding are the bomb. The subways are the quickest things ever. But if you are wanting a slower pace to your destination – you can hire ‘citibikes’, $12 for 24 hrs and you can ride wherever as their are bike stations all over the city.
I have never had good pizza before I went to NY. There is something about it over there. They nail the sauce, the crispiness of the crust, the cheese … mmmm … I am drooling thinking about it.
Wholefoods supermarket changed my life. It is kind of our version of About Life, but 1211233433 million x better. The most delicious buffet, fruit and veg, options of food, skincare, alcohol. It is massive and provides literally all you need.
Honking your horn unnecessarily gets on everyone’s nerves. The most abrupt sound ever. No one enjoys it.
Central park is heaven on earth. Lost my mind in this place! My friend and I went for a run in Central Park when it was raining and it was the most magical day ever. Everything was glistening. No run will ever compare to that run … ever.
