By this stage, Mariah has made its way back into our top ten most played on Spotify (as well as our hearts), dad’s won the Chrissy ham raffle at the local bowling club and mum’s closet is filled to the brim with ‘just a few stocking fillers’. We’ve made a list, checked it twice and we’re all set for a big day. We’ve overindulged, overspent and overplanned and to be honest, we’re almost, well and truly over it, but there is one more delightful task to plan out before the big day is upon on us, and that is to set the infamous Christmas table. Read on as we share our top five tips for creating a simple, fresh and budget-friendly table setting, perfect for Christmas day with the fam.
DON’T OVER DO IT.
With all the colours, flashing lights, baubles and Santa paraphernalia it’s easy to go nuts at the Xmas outlets, but when it comes to a table setting, it’s best to let your delicious dishes do the talking. Steer clear from a cluttered table and choose an understated centrepiece that will enhance your drool-worthy lunch, not hide it.
INVEST IN QUALITY LINENS.
We know we said this is budget-friendly, and it is if you think of it as a price-per-usage scenario. Investing in good quality, neutral coloured table linen means you can whip this out for errrrrrvy occasion – birthdays, Easter, girls lunches, brunches and beyond, this linen set will be with you today and years to come and allow you to start with a fresh blank canvas every time.
ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH.
Nothing makes you feel more special than seeing your name on a beautifully designed place card. Give your guests the warm and fuzzies by making your own name cards, or better yet just download, print and write on our ones we designed especially for you… Come on, go that extra mile, it’s Christmas!
GREENERY FOR THE WIN.
In true SBD style, we kept our centre-piece oh-so-fresh and green. Go for some eucalyptus or blue gum for a beautifully understated, slightly fragrant and inexpensive result (should only cost you around $20 for a few bunches). Simply arrange down the centre or place in a vase, breaking off small pieces and secure around your napkins with some twine.
Candles always add a warm and elegant touch.
CANDLES ARE ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA. Help set the mood and ramp up that Christmas spirit with an elegant candle. Candles are the perfect way to add a touch of warmth and an aromatic quality to your arrangement. Go for a limited edition Christmas candle for a signature scent or mix and match a few you have at home, either way, candles are always a welcomed addition to the dinner table.
