Sometimes in life, you step in dog poo. And then sometimes in life, you stumble across a 5 dollar note laying next to the dog poo. This week, I’ve had the 5 dollar note kinda week. I’ve sailed through, made it to Friday alive and felt like I’ve simultaneously got shit done, AND had a smile on my dial. Bonza.
I could blame it on the stars aligning, the freshly brewed Kombucha in my fridge, the bad-ass barista down the road, or I could even blame it on the boogie (sorry, had to). I’m not sure what it is exactly, but I’ve really just been enjoying how nice it is to be a human and a working human at that. And so, I thought, why not share with you guys the top ten things that are truly floating my boat this week. Who knows, you might even be thrown into a sparkly state of high-flying living too. And for the record, yes, I know we live in a world where 12 year olds are being paid for product placement on their Instagram, but I haven’t been paid a cent for any of these recommendations, just love ‘em and genuinely want to share them with y’all.
- YOU CAN BOOK ME APP
This online scheduling app saves me going back and forth on a 2 kilometre long email thread with new clients trying to organise a time to chat/meet when you both have schedules as crazy full as my next door neighbours ACDC collection. I’ve found it especially helpful for those international clients because it means you don’t have to do brain backflips to try and work out how to avoid calling them at some ungodly hour of the night.
- MY NEW MEDITATION CUSHION
I know, I know, I’m one of those people that needs to have the ‘stuff’ before I can do the ‘thing’. For most things in life, I have all the gear and no idea – just take a look at my surfboard and collection of 3 wetsuits for evidence. But seriously, this cushion entices me to sit down and actually take some time out from my crazy self once in awhile.
- THE BEING BOSS PODCAST
Once you get past the OTT American hilarity of these two ladies, their content is actually super juicy, relevant and the two of them are so relatable. They are funny, down to earth and talk about business as it is, no fluff, no bulldust.
Side note; I know the intro music is about as cringeworthy as your Mum dropping you off to school right at the front gate, but I’m so into it.
- WORKING IN 3 HOUR BLOCKS
I’ve recently moved out of Sydney (just an hour and a half down the coast), and have found myself on an entirely new schedule that I’m really digging. I get up at 6am, make a chai and work for a solid 3 hours. Then, I take a break to walk my dog, have some breakie and grab a coffee. Then I go back to my desk for another 3 hour chunk. Sometimes, in the evening, when I’m in crunch mode or feeling super inspired, I’ll sit back down and chow through some more tasks. But ultimately, working in these 3 hour chunks means that I am superman focused and give my brain the rest it needs to not finish the end of the day in a frazzled mess.
- HAVING A NICE WATER JUG AND CANDLE ON MY DESK
It took me 28 laps around the sun to realise that staying hydrated is the key to staying focussed. Keeping a nice water jug and glass on my desk inspires me to use it. Also, a smelly candle, because why the hell not?
- DARLING MAGAZINE ONLINE CONTENT
These ladies are killing it with their content. I can’t get enough. And obviously, I particularly love the achiever category, (of course).
- FULL MOON PLAYLISTS BY CARPENTER’S DAUGHTER
I am obsessed. Remember when you used to hang out for the new Dolly magazine to hit your letterbox? Yeah, well I wait for each month’s new full moon playlist to hit Spotify. They are bloody gold. I feel like she know’s me so well, it’s like she sits there thinking, gosh Tess is going to love this one as she adds each song.
- MY MATE SCOTTY PAPE
I’ve been devouring his book, The Barefoot Investor and telling all my friends about it. I truly do feel like we could have bypassed all the sell-your-left-kidney-on-eBay textbooks in high school and just read this bad boy.
Two words: it’s winter. Need I say more?
Move over flimsy, unreliable courier companies. Sendle is my new BFF. Why? Because it’s simple, easy to use, they actually show up and what’s more, the design of the user interface doesn’t make me want to squeeze lemon juice in my eyeballs. Bueno.
